Biography - Pastor Robert Armstrong

A native of Ferndale, Michigan, Robert Armstrong trusted the Lord during his military service.  Instead of joining the boys in their carousing one Saturday night, he spent the time in an Army dayroom reading a book that changed his life, "A Quest for Souls" by George W.Truett.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour.

After his discharge from the service, he heard about a Bible School starting in Highland Park, Michigan and immediately enrolled.  About this same time, he met the love of his life, Muriel. His pastor had told him he had the "perfect gal" for him, and arranged for them both to have parts in the Christmas play.  After the friendship blossomed, they were married in 1949.

After his graduation from Detroit Bible Institute, Robert became pastor of a little church, meeting in the kindergarten room of a school on the west side of Detroit.  That tiny group grew and prospered and became the Warrendale Community Church of Dearborn, which he continued to lead for 49 years.

When a new Christian radio station, WMUZ, took to the airwaves, the Word of Power radio ministry was born.  At the station's request, the Armstrongs also hosted a program called Breakfast at the Parsonage which included interviews with missionaries and other interesting personalities, live from the family breakfast table.  From time to time, all four of the Armstrong sons participated in the radio ministry since the studio was in their home.

Pastor and Mrs. Armstrong travelled extensively, preaching, teaching, and visiting missionaries around the world.  Muriel began recounting these and other life experiences in her broadcast segments.  She became a Bible teacher in her own right, ministering to women, and still conducts a weekly Bible study in her home.  Together they hosted a TV series called Happy Though Married focusing on marriage and family issues.

Robert Armstrong went home to be with the Lord he faithfully served in 2001.  Both he and Muriel have enjoyed a rich and fruitful life, and would testify to God's continuing faithfulness.  It has always been their desire to proclaim God's word by every means available.  The Word of Power website now makes their signature verse-by-verse teaching available to anyone, anywhere.
